Sequel to the demonstration which was embarked on by the students of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, yesterday afternoon, and at the early hours of today, 13th and 14th of October, respectively, led by the Students’ Union President, Comr. Hussein Akeem Adewale, the Governing Council and Management of the Institution have both decided to make peace with the students with a view to resolve the major issues that led to the subsequent demonstrations.
The demonstration which caused the lockdown of all entrances to the school started very early this morning but later on led to a dialogue session with the Governing Council and Management of the Institution, reaching compromise on major issues with the Students’ Union Representatives.
Also, the N3000, added to the tuition fees has been cancelled, as students who have paid the additional fee will be refunded in two weeks time, according to the resolution reached by the governing council and management of the institution.

Urgent need to complete registration formalities AND submission of files by bonafide students

The management of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki has called on the attention of all students of the Institution on the need to complete their Semester registration before the commencement of exams on 26th of October.
According to a memo released by the Academic Board on 8th of October, 2020, it was stated, that the era of allowing student who have paid onlybtuition fee but not completed registration to sit for semester examination is gone.
Therefore, paying tuition fees alone is not enough as prerequisite to writing this semester’s examination.

“URGENT NEED TO COMPLETE REGISTRATION FORMALITIES AND SUBMISSION OF FILES BY BONAFIDE STUDENT’S”
” I wish to call the attention of all students of this institution to the need to complete registration exercise for the first semester of 2019/2020 Academic Session.
For the purpose of emphasis and Student’s collective education, registration is completed if a student has submitted his/her dossers at the school level. Student’s registration entails the following:
a. Satisfaction of minimum entry requirements by fresh students and clearance at the Directorate of Academic Affairs.
b. Payment of tuition fees
c. Filling and submission of course form online.
d. Printing of hardcopy of course form and submission of same to Head of Department for endorsement.
e. Enclosure of course form, school fees receipt and other documents in the four dossiers of every student.
f. Payment of other approved fees (e.g school and department fees, SUG Levy)
g. Submission of files at the school officer and completion of a format wherein your programme, level, local government and State if origin, sex would be stated among others.
h. The files would be distributed to the school, department, Directorate of Student’s Affair and the Directorate of Academic Affairs.
j. A student who has completed (a-g) aboe would be issued with Certificate of Registration and allowed to it for 2019/2020 First Semester examination.
Please note that the era of allowing student who have paid tuition fee but not completed registration to sit for semester examination is gone.

The Management of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, has declared tomorrow, 6th of October, 2020, as lecture free day on campus.
This declaration was made sequel and in buttress of the the proposed “black day on campus” by the Students’ Union Government of the Institution, which has been approved by the management, to commensurate and sympathize with the family of the students the institution, who lost their lives.
All academic activities will be suspended on campus tomorrow, which has been set, to pay homage to the lost lives, and academic activities continues the next day.

The Students’ Union of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, under the leadership of Comrade Hussein Akeem Adewale, has called for day to commemorate and sympathize with the family of the students who lost their lives during the lockdown period and just a week into resumption, respectively.
The day, tagged as Black day, will involve prayer sessions, aiming towards the annihilation of sudden death amongst the students and to sympathize with the family of the students who lives were lost.

According to the Students’ Union details given, the event will be held on Tuesday, 6th of October at the new 500 capacity hall by 10am, involving prayer sessions and other necessary activities.
Also, the day, tagged as “black day” will ensure that all students of the institution are in black outfits all through, as deduced from the details given.

Nigeria at 60; A Retrospect.

Another celebration today.
We got our independence six decades ago, which was begotten to us by the Colonial Masters.
Our leaders back then fought so well for it and it was a job well done.
Over the years, Nigeria has been the Giant of Africa, we have excelled in many different things in different part of the world, we have done so well in all our different walks of lives.
Well done Nigerians.
Nigeria at 60!
The journey started as far back as 1960 and it is 2020 now. What a diamond jubilee!
Although, 2020 is a year of history all over the world, a rugged, tough and rough one, which Nigeria also had her own share of it.
It is a year of different tribulations, trials, sorrows, happiness, love and lots more.
Nigeria at 60!
Over the years we have passed through lots of dilemma, from crimes to deaths, to debts, to trials and countless heartbreaking and sad cases, however, we stood so strong, tall and up, because we are Giant of Africa.
Likewise, we have experienced love, happiness, unity, faith. Most especially, our endurance system is so unique because we are Giant of Africa.
Nigeria at 60!
What a year of celebration and sorrow, vis a vis.
For those that are alive to witness this, let us all be thankful to the Almighty, for sparing our lives till now.
Let us all pray HE spare our lives and bless us with goodness.
Let us all be hopeful for a better and greater Nigeria.
Let us all be grateful for the opportunity we have and be thankful to the Great one.

Around some minutes past 8pm on Wednesday 30th, September 2020, at Challenge 1 area junction, in Saki town, Oyo State, a student of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, lost her life in a road encounter.

A student, identified as Idowu Kafayat from the department of Estate Management, who is also a finalist at National Diploma level, was involved in a fatal road accident which claimed her life, on the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, an incoming vehicle ran over her, alongside her bikeman, crushing the motorcycle, rendering her lifeless on the ground in no time.

However, the bikeman who acquired serious injuries, was rushed to an hospital in Saki, and his currently receiving treatment, according to an authentic report.

After series of meeting held last night with the Government Representative and the Leadership of National Labour Congress (NLC) in attendance, a resolution was reached to suspend the planned strike as the Federal Government agrees on reviewing some new policies in order to cut down on the price hike on Electricity Tariff, fuel pump price not reviewed.
The Federal Government has agreed on a 2 week discussion and review for a new policy considerably on the Electricity Tariff.
NLC has moved to suspend the Nationwide strike after several negotiations.
Hence, students of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki can resume for academic activities on campus, today, 28th of September, 2020.
NB: A circular will be sent to further inform members of this new event.
PUBLIC OPINION
The Leadership of National Labour Congress should always maintain a clear discussion and less paper work in pressing for viable demands, the outcome was tentatively reached without a quick action in place.

Prior to the Communique issued at the end of the Meeting attended by Members of National Labour Congress and Civil Societies Organization in Oyo State concerning the price hike on Fuel and Electricity Tariff ravaging the country and leading to unnecessary adjustment within and outside the business environs.
The resolution settled for an indefinite strike to commence on Monday 28th September, 2020 notifying all members to participate in agitating for an immediate resolution from the Federal Government to cut down the price tags.
In respect to this new arising as students are expected to commence academic activities on Monday 28th September,2020 which is also the said date for the Nationwide strike/protest. Students are in full expectancy on whether the Oke Ogun Polytechnic has been notified, does the said date for resumption still stands and what are the possible expectations.

Flowing from the directives of both the National bodies of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, in reaction to the insensitivity of the Federal Government to the well-being of her Citizenry by the sudden and unwarranted increase in petrol price as well as hike in electricity tariff, the state Executive Councils of the Labour centres in OYO state in conjunction with CIVIL society organisations met on Friday, 25th September, 2020 and resolved as follows:

After a long halt of academic activities on campus, as a result of the noble Coronavirus pandemic which broke out earlier this year, causing all Institutions nationwide to suspend their various activities, the management of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, has finally ordered students of the institution to resume back on campus.
Students are hereby ordered to resume back to campus on Monday, September 28, 2020 for the continuation of the suspended academic session.

The decision was made and finalized by the academic board of the Institution, at a meeting held on thursday, 24th of September, 2020.
This is way far, a better news for the students of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, after patiently waiting for months.
