The ceremony is initially scheduled for Friday , 16th July 2021 and it has now been postponed to Friday, 30th July 2021. The change of date is due to some factors considered by the management of the institution "The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, saki”.
Therefore, in effect of this, all Dean's and Heads of Departments were enjoined to give the content of the memorandum released by the school management a wider publicity it deserves among their staff and concerned students accordingly.
Once again the matriculation ceremony date have been schedule to hold on 30th of July 2021
Earlier today, the management of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki released a memo to inform the entire students on campus about the slight change in date, in the ongoing 2019/2020 session second semester examinations.
The change of date is due to the Local Government elections that have been scheduled to hold on that day by the state government.
As a result of this, all papers that are supposed to be held on Saturday, May 22nd, have been shifted and now rescheduled to hold on Tuesday, 1st of June, 2021.
Students and departments that have been scheduled to have exams on that day, 22nd of May, have now been rescheduled for another day, which is Tuesday, 1st of June, 2021.
The latest information that has popped up concerning the intended suspended ongoing strike seems so shocking and disheartening, as JAC has declared suspension of congresses and moves for resumption in all Oyo state owned tertiary institutions.
This was made known in a report signed and released by the ASUP secretary, Alayande Gbenga, describing the government’s irregularities and inconsistency towards the agreed plan between them (JAC and Government).
According to the released report, Alayande Gbenga made it known that the government had a different game plan, as the MoU presented for signing on Wednesday, 21st, 2021, by the Director of Higher Education was totally at variance to the agreed agreement of the meeting held on Monday, 19th, 2021, which the JAC representatives decline, and did not sign.
The reports goes thus:
“LATEST INFORMATION ON JAC AND GOVERNMENT AGREEMENTS REGARDING CONDITIONS FOR SUSPENSION OF THE ONGIONG INDUSTRIAL ACTIONS.
The leadership of JAC has never left any stone unturned as regarding peaceful coexistence and understanding with the Government.
But, to our dismay, its becoming clearer, on daily basis that, the government of the day is both inconsistent and insensitive to the yearnings of people working in tertiary intitutions.
This update becomes imperative because of Government inconsistencies with the terms of the meeting of JAC and Government of Monday, 19th April, 2021 that lasted over five hours where the concerned parties had an understanding on how to resolve all matters that relate with the existence of the ongoing industrial actions all over the Oyo State owned tertiary institutions.
Consequently, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was to be signed on Tuesday, 20th April, 2021 but government functionaries involved were not available to append their signatures to the said agreement and JAC representatives had to return to the State Secretariat yesterday, Wednesday, 21st April, 2021.
Surprisingly, however, it was discovered that, the government had a different game plan as the MoU presented for signing by the Director of Higher Education was, totally, at variance to the agreed agreement of Monday and JAC representatives declined signing the eventual MoU.
Therefore, in line with JAC directive, all concerned institutions have been directed to suspend intending Congresses and, also remarked that, NO institution suspends strike until further directive by JAC.
The Oyo State Government Ministry of Education has invited the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Union for Oyo State Owned Tertiary Institution for a dialogue concerning the lingering indefinite strike in the State which began in the early days of last month, Marach, 2021.
This was confirmed in a letter of invitation signed by O.J Amoo, for the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology of the state on 16th of April, 2021, addressing the JAC Chairman.
The letter stated:
“I am directed to invite you and your members to a meeting with the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology schedule as follows:
Date: Monday, 19th April, 2021
Time: 12:00 Noon
Venue: Conference Room, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology”.
So far, the ongoing indefinite strike has been detrimental, affecting students’ plans and progrommes in their respective institutions. And students are really hoping for a good outcome of this dialogue.
Few or little students of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki are aware of the happenings surrounding Leadership at the Students’ Union level of the Institution.
Based on this, issues discussed in the Last House Seating, which was held at Architectural Department, on Thursday, 21st of January, 2021, Press Council correspondent was able to come up with the clear picture of the issues at hand pertaining to the Students’ leaders on campus, unleashing the reasons for the ongoing rumours about the Students’ Union President, Comr. Hussein Akeem, popularly know as “White”.
• Petition against The Students’ Union President and The Treasurer.
A Letter of Petition was written against The Students’ Union President, in person of Comr. Hussein Akeem and the Treasurer of the Union, Comr. Ogunbiyi Khadijat, accusing the two executives of carrying out some financial transactions without the knowledge of all the Students’ Union Executives, including the Financial Secretary of the Union, which was termed illegal and somewhat a fraudulent act.
This letter of petition was written by the Financial Secretary of the Students’ Union, Comr. Hassan Mariam, in form of raising an alarm regarding the financial situation of the Union.
However, resolutions were made to address the issues, as suggested by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sanni Kehinde and the The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Akande Elijah, which are, to summon the concerned Students’ Union Executives of the Financial body, known as the Financial Committee, and provision of the Union’s Statement of Account and Audit Account.
The Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor and President, will all be summoned to the House for interrogations and subsequent actions will be taken aftermath.
With the look of things and how heated the atmosphere is, the Students’ Representative Council which serve as the watchdogs over the Students’ Union Executive are expected be truthful and unbiased with their findings and investigations and finally, their decisions.
• Allegation Against The SRC Speaker, for Abuse of Office
A letter, with the heading “Letter of Allegation” was written to the House, by the Students’ Union President, Comr. Hussein Akeem Adewale, alleging the Hon. Speaker of the House, Hon.Yusuf Ibrahim, of illegally demanding for a certain amount of commission of the money allocated for the Students’ Union President’s capital project, also claiming that he possess all evidences and facts to back up his allegations.
However, an issue pertaining to this allegation has onced been raised by the Students’ Union Welfare, Comr. Afolabi Ebunoluwa, in a meeting summoned by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, headed by Mr Adeoti O.M, which had the presence of the Students’ Union Executives and Students’ Representative Coucil Members, but was denied by the Students’ Union President.
The reasons for denying at first, and eventually opening up by the Students’ Union President still remains unknown as he is yet to disclose that. But an allegation of such is a very sensitive one which is as well tantamount to Impeachment or stepping down from power if found guilty eventually.
The resolution of the House, is to send a notification to the two concerned parties to appear in the house in not more than 72 hours for interrogations which will hold on Tuesday, 26th of January by 2pm.
However, the Hon. Speaker of the House who is supposed to preside on issues as such will not be entitled to such power or even be part of the investigating team because of the allegation put up against him for the Abuse of Office.
It is one thing to exercise civil rights as a student of the institution, voting the leaders into office, however, knowing about, and been aware of their administration in their various offices is very important too.
