TOPS Matriculation Ceremony: Celebration day for Freshers on campus

  The ceremony commenced by 10:15am. Before the official commencement of the ceremony, opening address was delivered by the M.C. and opening prayer follows.
   Management Team, All the schools Dean, All the schools HOD and all other official Personnels on campus were also introduced after the opening address.

   After the Official introduction, The Acting Rector, Engr. M.B. Fasasi declared the 2021/2022 Matriculation Ceremony opened. After the opening declaration of the ceremony, the Acting Registrar urge the Acting Rector to present the official welcoming address of the ceremony.
     He started his speech with a note of salutaions to those Ex institution officials who were of late memories, may there perfect soul rest in peace. He mention the likes of the pioneer 1. HOD SLT, late Tijani Jimoh 2. Director of CIDM (Center for Information and Data Management) late S.S. Adebayo 3. HOD Banking and Finance, late A.R. Fasasi 4. HOD Public Administration, Mr Adebayo Moshood 5. Mr. Olagbenro Mathew 6. Late Mr. Okelola from Works and Services 7. Engr. Lawal B.M. and the likes, He proceeded by welcoming the Acting Registrar, Acting Bursar, Acting Librarian, Chairman committee of Deans, Dean of schools and students Affairs, Directors of Directorates, Heads of Departments, Deputy Registrar, All official guests, to start with Jamb Officials, Dean school of Engineering from Kwara state Polytechnic.

He also proceeded by welcoming Alhaji Saka Popular who represented the chairman town and gown, other staffs of TOPS, Parents and guardians, the Matriculants, Head of Security Agencies, Gentle Men of the Press, Men of the Media, Distinguish Ladies and Gentlemen. He Emphasized that they are all welcome to the 7th Edition of the Matriculation Ceremony in the history of TOPS as a Reputable Citadel of Learning, he said Matriculation Ceremony signal to the end of Admission process, which thereby conferring studentship of fresh intake who have concluded the process of registration.

He emphasized on the main reason students are here on campus, he said “As newly admitted students you’re implore to focus on your primary assignment by imbibing the best academic culture in other to come out in flying colors in your individual chosing career, also you’re to be punctual in class. At this juncture, the first three Matriculants to be here today shall be given an award because Punctuality is the soul of businesses”. He admonished every students to be attentive in class and also to always be found of good character. He said in his speech that necessary facilities are made available for learning, such as standard library, E-library and a befiting ICT center.

    The Acting Rector of The Oke-Ogun polytechnic, saki (TOPS) emphasized on Discipline. He said the institution has zero tolerance for indiscipline.

   After The Acting Rector’s speech, All the schools Dean presented all the Matriculants from there respective schools.

    After the presentation of all the Matriculants, Acting Registrar of TOPS take the Oath of Allegiance together with all the Matriculants.

   The First three Matriculants to be at the venue of the matriculation ceremony were given an award, afterwards the 2021/2022 matriculation ceremony was declared closed by the Acting Rector of TOPS.

TOPS Orientation Programme (Day 4)

The programme start by exactly 10:41am with an opening prayer from a Christian student from civil engineering department. Afterwards National Anthem was recited by everybody at the programme.

   Officially, Mr. A.S. Oladeji from school of Financial and Management Studies and Dr. Mrs. Adedokun Yemisi from Accountancy Department was welcome to the programme. Barrister M.A. Muslim, the H.O.D. General Studies was also welcome to the programme.
   The first speech was delivered by Mr. A.S. Oladeji, he talk about Anticultism on campus. He said in oct. 1952, 7 young boys formed a society called pirate, he said the leader of the society is professor Wole Soyinka, the leader then stated that if anybody wants to join the society he/she must not have an Academic G.P. Lower than 2point. He narated how cultism started in the country, he said it started from EYE to Black Axe, Boccania e.t.c. He said in 2001, cultism existed famously in TOPS campus and there were lots of violent and criminal act committed by them. But, The Governor of OYO state then, Lam Adeshina intervened and ask the Rector of TOPS to make sure that their is no other violence strike from cultists group. The Rector then took preventive measures by identifying and Liaising with the leader of the cultist group. He stated that the cultism group were suspended from school after another Rector came to reign.

   He analyse how every members join the cultism group, he said most of the members are not willing to join the gang. He further explain that the existing members will be nice to fresh student on campus and accompany the student on any issue they have. Fresh student will then be invited to their night programme, and then get to be initiated unwillingly. He also talks about how to recognise any member of the cult group, he said members will always be absent at night or keep late night clubbing and come back early in the morning. He adviced every fresh student to be vigilant. His conclusive councelling for students is to always remember where they come from, he admonished everybody to stay away from anything that can tarnished the image of the family, he also announced The Group and Alert All club as a cultism group because they are not registered on campus.
   After the speech questions were entertained, a student come up to ask question on how to eradicate cultist from the institution and he was answered.

   Mr. Okesola from Fire Department Saki Chapter delivered the second speech about Fire Prevention. He said fire is a good Servant but a wicked Master. He said fire is a process in which substances combine chemically with oxygen from the air and typically give out bright light, heat, and smoke; combustion or burning. He emphasized that major causes of fire outbreak is always Carelessness and Ignorance. He stated fire prevention as follows:
1. Do not overload electric socket with heavy appliances
2. Do not to smoke in a prohibited area. He Analyse what to do in a fire outbreak as follows:
1. Raise Alarm
2. Use of fire prevention material
3. Identify every member of the house
4. Make sure to lie down when in a smoke plug area, and locate a wall with the back of the palm for exit. He adviced everyone to educate there neighbors about fire.

   Dr. Mrs. Adedokun Yemisi delivered the third speech of the programme, She talk on effect of immoral dressing within and outside the school premises. She said the way you’re dressed is the way you will be addressed. She started with addressing the female students, she implore them to avoid rape because of the immoral dressing. She later addressed male students on immoral dressing. She mention the non allowed clothes on campus, they are as follows:
1. Sleeveless 2. Bumshort 3. Spaghetti top 4. Mini Skirt 5. Crazy Jean 6. Rastafarian Hairstyles 7. Sagged trouser 8. Head tie 9. Jewelry 10. Short nickers 11. Body Hugs 12. Plaited hair by male students.
   The conclusive part of her speech was that S.A.O. Office announces that From Monday 2nd of August 2021, Any indecent dressing will have a punishment.

   Barrister M.A. Muslim delivered the last speech. He started with greetings before he continue with his speech. He talks about Grievance procedure for students
1. Go straight to a lecturer in the case of department issues
2. Report to the H.O.D. if the outcome is not of satisfaction
3. Dean of the school should be informed too
4. Rector will be the best individual to address the issue later on

   He conclusively admonished students not to take law into there hands, He also analysis steps to be taken in any case of been search by any law enforcement agency.
    First thing to do is to ask for the Identification Card, second is to search them politely while the last thing to do is to ask for the Search Warrant.
  After his speech, the programme ended at exactly 12:20pm

TOPS Orientation Programme (Day 3)

   The programme commenced by exactly 10:00am and the programme coordinator start with opening address. Opening prayer was delivered by Tijani Habeeb from public administration, Afterward the National Anthem was recited by everybody at the programme. The host of the programme was recognised as the Dean of S.A.O. Mr O.S. Ajao, Mr. Durojaye from NDLEA was also introduced, Mr. Adebayo Samson was also Introduced, Mr. Olademi Michael was introduced as the Sport Head Coach of TOPS, afterward Mr. Olagbenro Adebayo was also introduced as assistance Coach. Deputy Rector of TOPS was also introduced as Senator Jimoh Azeez.


    The first speech was delivered by Mr. Adebayo Samson, He started with a vote of thanks to the Almighty and proceed to thanking the Rector. His speech was based on General councelling for the student. He said there are 3 Domain in the body of every human being, First is Psychomotor Domain, second is Affective Domain, while the third is Cognitive Domain. He adviced that every students must be aware of this and understand it for a successful Academic Programme. His conclusive advice is about how to read and assimilate, he adviced student against distraction of any kind, either from phone, music, pictures, cooking and friends, he also adviced student against Malnutrition. Lastly he admonished student to do every thing with the fear of God.

    A girl from public administration, Arosafe came up to summarize his speech and won A Thousand Naira.
    Another guest from Bursary Department was introduced as Mr. Adewumi Olabode and Mrs. Sherifat Mustapha.
   Mr durojaye from NDLEA came up to deliver speech on Drug Abuse, he firstly congratulated every students on the admission given to them. He then proceeded, Drug is any chemical substance which when taken into the body by any means changes the body function. It could be either synthetic or Natural. He emphasized that Alcohol and cigarettes can also be classify as Drug. He define Drug Abuse as the usage of drug in deviation to the medically approved manner or the socially acceptable manner. He emphasized that consequence of drug abuse is always worse. The conclusive part of his speech was advice against Hard drugs.
    A question was welcomed from a student. The question was: Is it adviceable to take Nescafe before reading. He replied that it is not adviceable.
    Another recognition was made from Polaris Bank, Miss Lawal Faridat and Mr. Ojolowo Abiola was introduced.

      Another speech was delivered by Head Coach, Olademi Michael. He said sport is aim to improve excellence in learning. He said Sport office teaches the following,

2. Spirit of Sportmanship
3. Management of Time
4. Meeting New Friends
5. Career Development
     He later move on to say to be part of the school team is by registration. Registration into any choice of Sport is available. Football, Basketball, Voleyball are outdoor game and Scramble, Cheese, Tennis and Badminton are indoor games. He emphasized that the institution take part in WPOGA, NIPOGA and OSTIGA.    Dean S.A.O. later delivered a speech, he said it is very important to follow due protocols on anything done in school. He clarify the misunderstanding of paying school fees before payment of Matric gown. He added that Matriculation gown are available at different schools.
    A speech was delivered by Miss Lawal Faridat from Polaris Bank. She came to the programme to represent the Bank branch manager. She talk about Bank business transaction with student. She also talk about how students have access to E-Banking but in case of students who does not have access to Internet, the USSD code that will be connected to the customer care is *833#. She also said their is a product for student.
     After her speech, questions were entertained and prices were given to the correct winner
   Afterwards, Dr. Ojo from Baptist medical center came up  to deliver his speech. He talk about Sex Education. He said as we all know that the Topic is broad but he’ll limit his speech to Sexual Health. He Emphasized on causes of sexually transmitted infection.

4. If a male has not been circumcised
5. Excesses Usage of Drugs

He also talked about the Prevention methods.

Questions were been asked by two students, the questions are: Is etching in the Virgina by pregnant women an infection? second is: Does too much of sexual intercourse exercised by a pregnant woman causes miscarriages? Third question is: Is menstrual cramps normal for all ladies?
    The doctor gave answers to all questions accurately in which the students were satisfied.
     From the FRSC the AHR (Admin and Human Resources) in person of Mr. Oyeleye Alao gave a speech, advising the students on some rights and things ought or expected of them to do which are thus: Using of helmet
Updating driver’s license
Taking it with them to avoid harassment
Talking politely to the officer(s)
      He made some illustrations and scenerio that happened in which an embargo has to be put in place regarding those aspects.
     Mr Adeniyi the Chief Librarian gave his speech. In his speech, he said the students should Cultivate the habit of reading because library supports education and schooling.

Obeying all rules and regulations
Familiarizing with the activities in the library (which supports learning).
     He said said there’s a programme which is titled Library Orientation, where a students (freshers) will be oriented and shown all the nooks and crannies of the library building, but before doing this, each students will have to obtain a ticket at the rate of #50 which will be used as an access to the Library. He concluded that all students have an access into the Library to get their assignments done and as well carry out some research on any projects whatsoever.
       The last speech delivered was been delivered by the Deputy Rector, Senator Jimoh Azeez who gave moral instructions on how students can comport themselves anywhere they found themselves, any bad behaviour in the school premises will result to suspension or expelsion regarding the crime(s) committed. He gave some tips regarding the school management which are;
Admission Regulation
Registration- Registration in the appropriate units
Registration Number – This will be given after the payment of the school fees
Examination Regulations
Discipline- The SDC (Students Disciplinary Committee) will be in charge
     He then urged all the students to adhere to the rules and regulations given to them by the school authorities so as to make them a proud candidates of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic Saki.
      The coordinator gave the vote of thanks to the facilitators and the students. The programme ended at exactly 2:08pm.

TOPS Orientation Programme (Day 2)

    The Programme commenced at exactly 10:15am with National Anthem been recited by all the participants including the facilitators.
    After the recitation of the National Anthem, Bank officials from zenith bank were introduced as Mr. Badmus and Mr. Samad Adewale, Mr. Lawal Nurudeen Abiodun from Ibedc and Mr Yekeen Okanlawo from electricity company saki branch was also introduced. The Coordinator Introduced Mr. J.O. Adigun as the director of Academic Affairs, Arch A.B. Siyanbola as the director of VSEC, Mr. Ajao as the Dean S.A.O.

   The Academic Affairs Chief in person of Mr. J.O. Adigun who motivated the students on how to arrange their files for submission so as to obtain the Certificate of Registration.
The requirements goes thus:

  For the HND students, they are to present their IT Letter to the ICT centre so as for them to generate their matric number with the sum of #1,500 and for the EED; in which their bio metric data after the payment of their school fees.
    A question was been asked by a student that JAMB gave him an admission into Civil Engineering and he wants to coverts to Architecture; the chief answered and said he should see him in the office so as for him to fill a form to his preferred choice of Course.

   A representative from Electricity company in place of Mr. Lawal Nurudeen Abiodun delivered his speech . He discussed the use of Electricity and Safety, he explained electricity as metal, atomic, elements. He said “without electricity there is no Life”. He gave tips on how to make adequate use of Electricity. The tips are as follows:
1. Do not overload the socket, it can lead to explosion.
2. Read the instructions on the manual of the gadgets used.
3. Recognise the main switch when there is a fire outbreak.
  Two students asked questions concerning the segment saying “when will there be an electricity in the land of Saki from night till day break?” Another question is ” why is the Electricity supply a day on and a day off?”
He answered the second question by saying the Electricity Allocation Mega-Watts Power is 20MG Watts which will be shared between the towns in Saki.
   

After the speech from the Electricity company, A representative from Zenith Bank Mr. Samad Adewale who represented the manager Mr. Ilepasi gave a short lecture on the existence of Zenith Bank which was established in the year 1990 (31 years ago) and was founded Saki in the year 2010 (11years ago). He made a short lecture on Aspired Account which is a product brought in by the Zenith Bank itself. The account will retain the maximum amount of #2.5 million Naira and the fee for the ATM card for this account is #500.

He advised the students that they should avoid downloading from unsecured websites, and should log out after logging in into any Cyber Cafe. He went further in his speech to say *966*911# is the code to aspire account, while the general USSD code for zenith bank is *966#. The requirement for opening Aspire account is one passport photograph and admission letter.

   Another speech was been delivered by Alhaji Saka Popular who represented Alhaji Supo Busari the Town Chairman, he gave his speech by praising the Lord in a Christian manner and a Muslim manner, then later gave some advice and told the students five things to do in the various hostels in Saki.
   First is adhering to the instructions given by the landlords or landladies of different Hostels. Second thing to do is to keep the environment clean. Third point is talking politely to the bike Man and to caution them while speeding. Fourth is safety with the cooking gas. Fifth is been careful on the main roads. He ended his speech by praying for the students both in a Muslim way and a Christian way.

     After his speech, A talented entertainer named Timophilus sang to the hearings of the students a song titled “Amin”.
      The CIDM Office Unit delivered another speech, Mr. Bamimore Samson gave the full meaning of CIDM as Center for Information and Data Management. He continued his speech by saying that the only thing that can guarantee a studentship of any individual is to have a Matric Number. The acceptance fee will migrate the students into the student’s Portal, school fees payment will guarantee the obtainment of Matric Number, the matric number guarantee the students I.D card. To check into the Portal the form number will be acquired, while the different between the full timers and the part timers is the P & N. He said the school I.D card cannot be hacked because of its bar code,which has been synchronized with the NIN. He said if any students has a problem with their Portal should visit the ICT for clarification.

      Mr Kareem Ismail from NSCDC talked about Students, Security, Environment and Safety, he explains security as the act of been secured from danger, Environment as internal and external, Safety as the state of been safe. He also have tips on how to stay safe. firstly, he urge students to stay alert by staying away from restricted areas. Secondly, closing of doors while indoor and lastly, he advised the school management to put in place CCTV cameras in the school premises so as to watch the activities & movements of the students.

      Arch A.B. Sinabola also delivered his speech by lecturing the students on VSESC- Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship Centre, VSEC was introduced into the institution by the Federal Government. Appointment, Counseling, Registration, Attendance, Location, Certificate and The Exhibition are the steps in VSESC. He said the course code for the first semester is EED 116, second semester is EED 216; The Course Title for the ND I is Introduction to Entrepreneurship,ND 2 is the Practice Of Entrepreneurship. For the HND I it is Course Development 1, while HND 2 is Course Development 2. The fee will be paid online, the lecture is always scheduled on Thursday 2pm to 4pm. The various professions and their works were been displayed for the students to see by the lecturers in charge.

    Mr. Ajao gave the vote of thanks to the students and the facilitators for the time spent, he then pleaded that the D.J should play a song by Celine Dion titled “I Believe I can Fly” in which he played, this led to the end of the programme by exactly 1:30pm.

TOPS Orientation programme (DAY 1)

The programme commenced exactly 10:15am.
The coordinator of the programme introduced the Acting Rector of THE OKE-OGUN POLYTECHNIC, SAKI (TOPS) in person of Engr. M.B. Fasasi, after this the Acting Registrar was introduced in person of Mr. B.L. Ojo, afterwards the Bursar was also introduced as well in person of Mr. M.A. Azeez. The coordinator went further to introduce the chief Librarian in person of Mr. M.O. Adeniji, and the Rector’s Personal Assistant in person of Alhaja M.A. Adetoro and the Dean S.A.O. as Mr. Ajao.

The first speech was been delivered by the Dean S.A.O. Mr. Ajao, He talks about campus life in general, he said there are 3 tips to life on campus. The First tips is to Take responsibility for your living, Second is Make the best out of your time and third is to Embrace the different on campus, either from a colleague or the lecturers.

The second speech was been delivered by The acting rector, Engr. M.B. Fasasi, he emphasis on a proverb which says “no matter how big a butterfly is, it can never be refers to as a Bart” which means, while an adult is getting old, the young shall grow. He went further in his speech by saying while we are here on campus, punctuality is the soul of the businesses. The real business here is education. He also said a philosopher Plato said “it is better to be unborn than to be untaught because ignorance is the rule of misfortune”. The major reason students are here on campus is to learn service to God, humanity and oneself. If that is so, he adviced that for excellence in life one has to work, pray and play. He concluded that all student should adhere to the reason they are here.
Another section of the speech delivered was held by the Acting Registrar, B.L. Ojo. He gave an adviced to the students telling them not to engage in any hidden activities that isn’t within the school, he said students should avoid any activities that will be a detriment in attaining a global objective. He also said that every student should stay away from cultism and examination malpractice because when caught with the act, the results are expelsion or been suspended for a semester or a session. He emphasized on the advice of the Acting Rector which is to focus on the study. He said the students Affairs office accommodates welfarism to all students, any frustration in nooks and crannies of the campus can be reported to the students Affairs office. He ended his speech with “Don’t let any activities hinder your primary objective on campus”.

Tips of each departments was been delivered by the Bursar, Mr. M.A. Azeez. He said a day will be schedule to hold a programme for financial education. Acceptance fee is to be paid immediately after admission is been given to any student. He also said school fees amount is fixed and the quotation of each level will be released tomorrow (Day 2). He said students should not fall victim of paying school fees to any personnel, but follow due process and pay to authorized bodies. He went further to say that Bursary department only accept online payment, not by cash. He warned the students that refund of double payment is not easy, make Payment at when due. He also said that any question on the Bursary department will be attended to by tomorrow (Day 2).

The Acting Registrar, Mr. B.L. Ojo, also said that the management notice that students has not been showing up for biometric, he implore all students to visit the biometric center after payment of school fees.

The Chief Librarian, Mr. O. Adeniji later took charge on the tips. He started by congratulating all admitted students. He said: Library is the back bone of the institution because it aid with the accreditation of courses. He adviced the students, not to rely on the knowledge been impacted in the lecture room, students should go further by visiting the Library to acquire more knowledge. He also said all students should couple Education with moral characters on the campus.

The Dean of Students Affairs added that more enlightenment programme will be held tomorrow, next tomorrow and days after. The orientation programme will be concluded for this session with Matriculation ceremony which is to hold on the 30th July 2021. He said all newly admitted students should endeavor to pay for the Matriculation gown, which is the sum of #2000 and which will be paid to Bursary department. After the payment, matriculation gown will be available in each school for the student who has paid up the fee. He later wished all student a successful ceremony ahead.
The programme came to an end by reciting the national anthem and Oyo state anthem. The programme ended exactly 12:30pm.

TOPS Orientation programme

TOPS Orientation programme for 2020/2021 session is now scheduled to commence on Monday, 26th July 2021 and ends on Thursday, 29th July 2021.
The programme is scheduled to hold at New 500 capacity Hall and surrounding premises, it will commence by 10:00am and ends by 2:00pm daily.

It was made know that all lectures that are expected to hold at New 500 capacity Hall between the stipulated time of the orientation programme should be shifted to another venue inorder to avoid clash.

It was further said that all the four days of the programme will not be completely lectures and test free. In essence, Fresh students are expected to attend classes between 8:00am-10:00am and 2:00pm-6:00pm each day.

Exit of a Legend: Sound sultan Life, Death and Time.

Sound Sultan(born Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi; November 27,1976-July11,2021) was a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, and recording artist.

Sound Sultan was born to Mr and Mrs Fasasi Liadi Alarape. He had five siblings, including Baba Dee, who is a graduate of Theatre Arts.

The entertainer was a graduate of Lagos State University, from where he obtained a degree in Geography and Regional Planning in 1999.

He was regarded as one of the pacesetters of modern hip hop music to speak against poverty, corruption, bad governance and societal ills in Nigeria.

Sound Sultan’s career in show business started in the 1990s, when he hosted shows to raise money for studio sessions.

By 1999, he had won numerous local talent-hunt shows. He released his first single “Jagbajantis” in 2000, which was a hit in Nigeria.

After independently releasing other singles and featuring in hit songs of other artists, he was signed by Kennis Music.

Sound Sultan began a working relationship with Wyclef Jean when featured alongside 2face Idibia and Faze on “Proud to be African” from Wyclef’s Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101 album.

In 2012, it was announced that Sound Sultan was made a UN Ambassador for Peace for his exemplary lifestyle and career.

In 2015, Sound Sultan released the rap single “Remember” after a long absence from the music scene.

After the fallout of the African Basketball League, he joined forces with the organisers of the Continental Basketball League to become a team owner of Lagos City Stars (the 2017 champions) and a facilitator of the league. He then, further more with his music career.

Late Singer, Lanre Fasasi, a.k.a Sound Sultan, had urged Nigerians to celebrate people while they were alive.
This was his last appeal on his Instagram before he died on Sunday of throat cancer

Sound Sultan said it was necessary to give accolades to people while they were alive instead of after death.

He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with “Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma”.

He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings. We, his family appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.

In respect to his tribute, late Sultan had urged us to celebrate people while they exist, the question is, what if they do not exist again? Are they to be celebrated after their departure on earth. Sigh.. We should all celebrate the value of existence before its exhaust.

Following the announce of his death by family members, we hereby sympathize with the family, fans and supporters of late Sound Sultan. May his gentle soul continues to rest in perfect peace. Amen.

Accident: A Recently Graduated Lad Met With Demise With Friends.

A student of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, saki (TOPS) which recently graduated from the department of Public Administration ND2 got into a car accident along ijebu road, he is recognised as Balogun Toheeb Olanrewaju Popularly know as Larry.

This accident occur on Thursday, 8th of July 2021, while he was trying to over take a trailer in his Green Toyota Muscle Car with three of his friends, one male and two female. In the course of the accident he lost his life with two of his friends, both female were found dead while the other male friend got into coma.

While he was still a student of the Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, saki (TOPS), He lives at Florence Hostel, saki. He is known to be cool guy, very friendly and warm-hearted.

His Demise is a painful experience to All the students of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, saki (TOPS). Therefore, The institution's Student Union Governor (SUG) might hold a prayer session and a candle night for him on Friday, 16th of July 2021. May there souls rest in perfect peace.
