Report on Screening Exercise of potential candidate for the Student Union Transition Committee.

TOPS PRESS COUNCIL brings to you the outcome of today’s screening for potential candidates for the Students’ Union Transition Committee held today, Jan 14 2022.

The screening process commenced with a word of introduction from the Dean S.A.O. in person of Mr Adeoti.

The screening was coordinated by Dean S.A.O, President of the Electoral Committee and a member of the Student Affairs Office. The total number of 16 best students from all the schools in the institution were engaged. The 16 students were ultimately handpicked by the Schools and sent to the DSA for invitation to the screening exercise. Three students from SBCS, Three from SFMS, Five students from Science, Two from Environmental, and Three from Engineering making total number of 16 students.

The first phase of the screening exercise was an interactive session. Introduction of students and few question were thrown to each candidate accordingly.

Second phase was an essay writing,10mins was granted as the duration for the written test. The written test was graded by a GNS lecturer, as the identity of each candidate is unknown to him as there were no name on the booklets submitted except a serial number given to each candidate so as to ensure fair grading by the lecturer tasked with the grading.

The last phase of the exercise was question and answer exercise, meanwhile all the questions were current affairs questions. Total number of Fifty Eight (58) questions were prepared for answering. Each Candidate was allowed to pick any question of their choice for answering. Three (3) questions from 58 questions were meant for each candidate.

After the screening exercise, the tests were graded and was announced immediately, the collation of results from all the three phases of the exercise goes thus:

First Position – School of Engineering
Second Position – School of Science
Third Position – School of Business and Communication Studies.
Fourth Position – School of Engineering
Fifth Position – School of Science
Sixth Position – School of Science & School of Business and Communication Studies.
Seventh Position – School of Science
Eight Position – School of Business and Communication Studies.
Ninth Position – School of Environmental
Tenth Position – School of Environmental
Eleventh Position – School of Financial and Management studies
Twelfth Position – School of Science
Thirteenth Position – School of Engineering
Fourteenth Position – School of Financial and Management studies
Fifteenth Position – School of Business and Communication Studies.

Directorate of Student Affairs emphasized on the fact that minimum of One and maximum of Two candidates would come from all schools, meanwhile only Seven candidates were to be picked from the Sixteen candidates who were engaged in the screening exercise. Also, if any of the candidate already acquired any portfolio or office in either departmental or faculty level, there is liberty to choose between the initial portfolio or the later if such candidate is tasked with a new portfolio at the Students’ Union Level.

The final result will be announced on Monday as the Directorate of Student Affairs awaits the decision from all candidates as mentioned earlier.

Electoral Activities at TOPS for 2021/2022 Academic session.

An election is one of the most important pillars of democracy in higher institution and it is that process through which students can choose their representatives as per their choice which they feel has the capability to form a better Students’ Union government to perform actions in the favor of students’ interest.
It remain evergreen that 2020/2021 academic session election was cancelled by the Management due to warfare security reports. In the report, the security noted that risk of violent extremism will increase if the Students’ Union Government election takes place.

Moreso, The Management made it known to all students that Students’ Union Executive will be chosen based on Cumulative Grade Point Accumulation(CGPA) and other criteria. Which means students with highest CGPA in various departments will be screened and few among the screened students will be assigned a post to act in place of Students’ Union Caretaker.

However, the Student’s Union Caretaker is said to be five or seven men transitional committee to be chosen from  five schools on campus. The transitional committee yet to be chosen will be part of  Students’ Union Independent Electoral Committee(SUIEC) for 2021/2022 academic session election.

Furthermore, regarding the 2021/2022 academic session election, the  SUIEC had scheduled electoral activities to be followed for the conduct of 2021/2022 academic session, free and fair election.
PRESS COUNCIL,TOPS is using this medium to notify  all the students about electoral activities process for 2021/2022 academic session. The Forthcoming Student Union Government election is intended to be a peaceful election, therefore proper measures have been considered by the SUIEC (Student Union Independent Electoral Committee) in order to have a silent, proper and peaceful election for the upcoming academic session.

(27th-28th January, 2022).

6.Commencement of campaign(1st-7th February, 2022).
7.Manifestos(9th February, 2022). 
8.Electoral debate(10th February, 2022).
9.Electorate documentation/Validation(10th February, 2022).
10.Students’ Representative Council election(12th Feb, 2022).
11. Students’ Representatives Council Petition-(14th-16th February, 2022).
12. Students’ Union Executive  Election( 19th February, 2022).
13.Students’ Union Executive Petition(21th-23rd February, 2022).
14. Deliberation /Verdicts on all Petitions(24th February, 2022).
15.Leadership training/getting to business(14th-15th March, 2022).
16.Inauguration /Oath taking(Management’s decision).

Please, be informed that the manifestos and  elections will be conducted online as  best tool for a free and fair election and no malpractices will be allowed. *Note* – Any student caught truncating peace as regards this, will be thoroughly sanctioned.

To cap it all, electoral process will take off on the 7th January, 2022  with the release of election’s guidelines.

TOPS Expell 16 students Sequel to Gross Misconduct & Examination Malpractices. The popular Bata wahala is a familiar name on the indefinite suspension list.

Reports from our Correspondence who atttended the SDC meeting (Student’s Disciplinary Committee) held on wednesday, 15th  december, 2021 in the rector’s conference room, say total number of 38 student were caught in the act of misconduct and malpractices during first semester Examination of 2020/2021 academic session. 

The  cases were considered in two aspects: Cases of Gross misconduct and Cases of Examination Malpractices.

(A) CASES OF GROSS- MISCONDUCT: This was considered before the examination malpractices cases.
The committee considered cases of Six(6) students who were caught with the act of  gross misconduct during the first semester of 2020/2021 academic session. The first case considered by the committee was the case of Abdul-Rasaq Wasiu Olamilekan(aka Bata Wahala) with the matriculation number 18PPA505 from the department of PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION ND2 who was alleged to have caused public nuisance within the premises of the entire institution which eventually truncated the peace of the institution. Indefinite suspension was recommended and approved on Abdul _Rasaq olamilekan Wasiu including Damilola Samuel Pamilerin(19PPA326), from the same department who was caught in the examination hall with fake school fees receipt by a staff from Bursary department while on routine inspection.

The committee recommended other three caught in the examination hall with old school fees receipts, for extra semesters. The second  case considered was subject to confirmation of misconduct.

(B) THE CONSIDERATION OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE: Malpractices from School of science: The meeting considered and upheld the recommendation of its Sub-Committee at each school: Twelve(12) students each, from School of Science, School of  Business Communication and Studies and  seven(7) students each, from School of Financial Management Studies and School of Engineering. It was noted that  students whose names appeared in the picture were alleged to have brought incriminating material(s) into  the examination hall during First Semester Examinations of the 2020/2021 academic session.  The decision of the Committee is as contained in the attached picture.

Moreover, after the consideration of the cases by the committee, the committee advised the victims to be more studious and never repeat such acts again as it is of no benefit but would only damage their academic pursuits.

To cap it all, the Dean of Student affairs (Mr. Adeoti) addressed the issue of immoral dressing. He then then admonished that “all students should be disciplined and morally dressed. The management won’t be friendly with any student who refused to toe to the line of immoral dressing within the campus environment . Any student caught with such acts will appear before the Students’ disciplinary committee and will be sanctioned with punishment in line with the institution regulations which  might be unbearable for such student”,.

Summit between TOPS Governors & Reps. and Student Affairs Office.

On Wednesday, 1st of December 2021, a meeting was held between the S.A.O. and TOPS Governors & Reps. Meanwhile, the core intent of the meeting was to Agitate our Efforts towards the development of the Institution.

However, eradication of immoral dressing and behaviour was discussed at length, and the General welfare of the Students.

The meeting led by The Dean of students Affairs (Mr Adeoti Olatunde) starts with five (5) key points which are.
1. Discipline
2. Democratization
3. Diligence
4. Digitalization
5. Dignity.
All which is under Decadence.
The purpose of the gathering is to let the Governors know how they are disseminate information to the grassroots.
The board makes law under which all students are to accept and abide by it. Out of which are
1. Students must dress moderately
2. Wearing of crazy jeans is prohibited
3. Wearing of transparent and see through dressings
4. Wearing of tight fitting jeans
5. Wearing of rubber slippers
6. Wearing of Necklace
7. Unkept appearance such as Dreadlocks
8. Crazy haircut
9. Wearing of t.shirt with subjective captions
10. Wearing of earrings by guys
11. Wearing of dark colored glasses in class
12. Wearing of face cap during classes for guys and do on.
All this information and other are for Governors to help disseminate to their respective classes in order for them not to be a victim of it.
Governors whose in his class any victim is found will also be held responsible.
So it was brought to a conclusion that the board will make available a soft copy and a hard copy of the rules guiding the students.

In furtherance of our efforts towards reaching out to major stakeholders, I today met with faculty presidents and Departmental presidents. We deliberated extensively on the 5D’s to tackle 1D philosophy; we ironed out other issues bothering on students welfare and others issues. Among all issues raised included the rationale on the payment for sport  facilities and competition after the breakdown of the tuition fees reflected charges on sports; the students were advised to always channel their agitations to the appropriate quarters using the appropriate channels. Questions were asked on updates on convocation, delay in computation of students results. They requested from the Directorate to be  transparent and accountable in the implementation of the electoral time table. The forum was of the opinion that for the institution to return to the lost glory,  there is need to key-in into the 5for 1 philosophy I.e. 5D are in this order: Discipline, Diligence, Dignity, Democratization and Digitalization to tackle 1D which stands for Decadence. The meeting came to a finality by emphasizing on the general needs for all stakeholders to pursue a common cause to rescue TOPS from its state of comatose…!Thanks. DSA.

TOPS Students Involved In Ghastly Automobile Accident.

It is indeed so sad to see students of this institution get involved in accident.

A car accident occured today, Monday, 8th of November 2021, few minutes to 10am, in the morning. It happen in Saki to Ago-Are road, at the front of Sagmos petrol station, saki.

The victims of the car accident were three of the students from The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki. They were all presume to be student from the department of Public Administration, ND I. They were acclaimed to be driving in a Toyota Camry car.

The witnesses of the incident explain that, the driver of the Toyota Camry Car over speed it limit, to the extent of the car’s tire bursting on motion. In the course of trying to control and balance the handling of the car, the car crossed over to the other side of the 2-way road and crashed into another Toyota Corolla car coming from the other side of the road. It was also said that occupant of the Toyota Corolla car were students coming for their clearance, a male and a female, precisely.

Although, none of the victims are dead yet, as they were taken to BMC hospital in Saki for immediate and proper medical attention because they are badly injured, as one of the victim was believed to have a broken ribs, and another has a head injury.

Police have towed the two cars to their station for further investigations

The school Students’ Affairs office have responded positively and humanely, sending representatives to the scene and the hospital, respectively.

We pray and hope for their quick recovery.

TOPS 1st Semester EXAMINATION.

The first Semester Examination is set to commence on Monday, 1st November, 2021. In order to ensure the smooth  conduct of the examinations, considering the  circumstances in various tertiary Institutions in Oyo State of which The Oke-Ogun Poytechnic Saki is not an exemption, the Management has resolved that the requirement for eligibility to sit for the examination is as follow

School fees receipt for the first Semester 2020/2021 academic session
Course form and certificate of registration for first Semester 2020/2021 Academic Session.

As the saying implies “Proper planning prevent poor performance“. PRESS COUNCIL implore all students on campus to prepare well for the so close examination. Remember “whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well“.

TOPS GOVERNING COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW ACTING RECTOR

The governing council of the oke ogun polytechnic saki reached a final conclusion in appointing a new rector of the institution who is to act in the capacity.

The new appointed acting rector Dr. Yekeen O. Fasasi Is a senior lecturer of the institution currently serving at the department of Math and statistics, school of science before his appointment as the new acting rector of the institution.

However, Engr. M.B. Fasasi’s termination was announced after the decision made by the governing council from the meeting held during the middle of last week, meanwhile his termination as the acting rector was clearly stated and he was appreciated for his past service and contributions to the institution.

I wish to inform the general public that the governing council of the oke ogun polytechnic saki (TOPS) at its meeting held, decided to terminate Engr. M.B. fasasi’s appointment as acting rector for the institution with immediate effect.

As at now Dr. yekeen O Fasasi is the newly elected acting rector, meanwhile he is to resume office on Monday, 18th of Oct. 2021.

However, on this day, Id el Maulud is celebrated by all Muslim brothers and sisters across the globe. This day is practically believed to be the day Holy prophet Muhammed (S.A.W. may the peace and blessings of almighty Allah be upon him) was born.
