Press Council Correspondence report that Allumni union in TOPS as organise an Educative seminar for the students of this great citadel of learning.
The seminar is scheduled to come up on Wednesday, 9th of March 2022. Survey and Geo-informatics Building, Beside New 500 cap. is the venue scheduled for this anticipated Educative Seminar. Timed to be 12pm
Please be aware that this programme is not to promote politics on campus, it is ultimately for the students. We’ll suggest you look forward to having fun and learning massively through out the programme.
Once again, this program is organise by the Allumni Union on campus and it is solemnly organised for students, not to promote Politics. We’ll look forward to see everyone at the event.
This is to inform the general public about the fort-coming Electoral Manifesto and Debate scheduled for 17th & 18th Feb 2022 respectively, the venue is the new 500 cap, and the time scheduled is 10am – 12pm both days.
However, the topic for the Electoral Debate scheduled to hold on 18th Friday, 2022 is;
“Is Nepotism a part of Ethical Culture and Conflict Resolution? Discuss!”
Note: This Debate is an avenue to test the intelligence of the aspirants. It does not call for unnecessary violent act. Also, the Electoral Debate is mainly for the Presidential, Vice Presidential and the Secretariat Candidates.
The meeting was chaired by the Dean, Students’ Affairs of the institution. Afterwards, updates from Directorate of Students’ Affairs secretariat was well delivered.
The agenda of the meeting will be analysed below:
1. Correspondence 2. Preparation For the Election 3. Manifesto.
1. Correspondence: Three Correspondence was received from students, I) The first one is a letter of withdrawal from an aspirant, aspiring for SRC from the Department of Business Administration.
II) The second letter is a letter of complain, stating that Olabisi Oyindamola with Matriculation Number 20PCE056 from Civil Engr. Dept. ND1 aspiring to be a member of Student Representative Council (SRC), was absent from the screening exercise. The screening attendance was checked during the meeting inorder to verify her presence from the screening. She was present at the screening exercise a cording to the attendance.
And also AMoo Sodiq with Matriculation Number 20PMT002 from Marketing Dept. ND1 aspiring to be a member of Student Representative Council (SRC), he is not suppose to be consider to aspire the post because of his emergence from the Non-Accredited department.
Majority of the committee decided to accept his eligibility as it is not a criteria to disqualify an aspirant with the fact that he/she emerge from a Non – Accredited department.
III) The Third Letter is a letter of complain, stating that Moshood Abass with Matriculation Number 20PBT004 from Building Technology Dept. ND1 aspiring to be Welfare Director II (SUG), has a tattoo mark on his wrist which is not a birth or tribal mark. The letter was sent with the picture.
After all delibration from the members of the committee, majority of the member agreed that the school do not have any standing rule against tattoo mark and also it is not stated as a criteria to disqualify any aspirant. Therefore, he is deemed qualify unless he has another tattoo mark that is suggestive of cultism, then he will be arraign for SDC.
It was later passed that SDC will likely dabble into the issue of tattoo mark and piercing on students body as it will be referred to the SDC for proper assessment.
2. Manifesto: Electoral Manifesto and Debate was scheduled for 17th & 18th. Manifesto will come first on 17th, 10am – 12pm, while Electoral Debate , which was scheduled for 18th, 10am – 12pm. Electoral Debate is mainly for Presidential, Vice Presidential and Secretariat Candidate. The PRESS COUNCIL, TOPS will announce the debate topic on their information platforms.
3. Preparation for Election: All preparation were critically discussed concerning the Election day. It was emphasized that SUG Receipt is mandate for the electorate.
As stated in the electoral guidelines by Students’ Union Electoral Committee(SUIEC), Students’ Union Government(SUG) receipt is a mandate for all voters. Failure to purchase the receipt by any voter, such voter will be disallowed to vote.
Fortunately, Students’ Union Transition Committee (SUTC) has made the receipt available for purchase as announced during the last Summit held between the Stakeholders & the newly appointed Students’ Union Transition Committee. The amount to purchase the receipt is a sum of four hundred naira #400. It is advisable to act fast if intended to vote for Students’ Representative Council and Students’ Union Executive elections.
The meeting commenced as scheduled at SENG conference room by 10am. The Chairman Transition Committee gives the opening address at the comencement of the Sumit.
Firstly, The Stakeholders ask the student Union Transition Committee the stipulated amount to be paid for SUG receipt, howevere, the committee replies that all students are expected to pay the minimum amount of 400 each, a member of the Stakeholders then pleaded with the president to disseminate the information to the student through the appropriate information platform.
Chairman Transition Committee explained that the student will not agree paying 400naira for the bill unless the Stakeholders agree and motivate them to cooperate with paying the bill, At that point, stakeholders members request to know the proposed agenda the committee have prepare for the students if it is necessary they pay that huge amount for the bill when the semester is almost at the edge. Howevere, no definite reply was given by the transition committee, they only promise to execute a tangible project to appease the students.
The committee further stated that SRC election scheduled for 19th Feb, 2022 will be a physical voting system, meanwhile the eligibility criteria for the voting is the SUG receipt/bill as stated by the transition Committee.
After all discussions, it was decided that the transition Committee will visit each department on campus to announce the issue of acquiring the SUG receipt, meanwhile the stakeholders promise to back up the motion.
Transition committee asked the Presidents and Governors of schools and departments, among the stakeholders about the issues they encounter in their various jurisdiction, which they want the committee to iron out and rectify as soon as possible.
One of the presidents Talked about how rude the bike men on campus are in addressing the students. He also stated the fact that the transportation fee is not fixed, and how they endanger the life of student while taking short cut to various destination.
A member of the Stakeholders raised the issue of Medical and the NHIS on school fee receipt, meanwhile the committee promise to work on it.
The stakeholders unveil their concer about how safe the SUE Virtual voting system is, because they don’t want the number of voters to be more than the number of students voting, The committee ultimately assure how secure and safe the Virtual voting system is.
Note: PRESS COUNCIL’s correspondence investigate the issue of SRC voting system. Subsequently, the DSA corroborate that all the coming election (SRC & SUE) will be a Virtual voting system as initially scheduled, not a physical voting system. However, Petitioning is physical.
As scheduled to hold, the screening exercises of the institution include: The written, the oral and the interactive session
The first session, which was in written form only lasted for 30 minutes as it commenced at 9:45am and ended exactly 10:15am.
Each aspirant was provided with a question and answer sheet with strict sitting arrangement at the extreme end of the provided seats. This session was ultimately coordinated by the DSA i.e the Directorate of Students’ Affairs.
The second session which was Oral screening session commenced at 11:07am. In this session, the prepared questions were mainly based on current affairs. The questions were in two categories; Category A and B.
Category A had questions from number 59 to 151 while Category B had questions from 1 to 113. Candidates called upon answered a question of any number of his/her choice from favorable categories. Each candidate was allowed to answer just 3 questions from this session.
The last session was interactive session. The questions in this session were not necessarily current affairs questions. Each member of the panel was allowed to prepare 5 questions. However, the panel were made of six members.
Aspirants were called to answer questions from any of the panel’s member.
The last session seized up to the end of the Screening programme.
After the screening, the DSA (Dean, Student Affairs) make a closing remark on the screening programme and advice the aspirants not to start there respective campaign yet untill the list of the successful aspirant is announce.

The agenda of the meeting are analysed below:
1. Four aspirants were unable to submit their forms before the slated hour for the election application form submission elapsed. It was said that at the departmental level, another was conducted for those aspirants from Science Laboratory Technology department. One of their candidates was absent at the screening, therefore she was not recommended in time by the Head of her department (HOD) which made her to have a late submission.
The cases of other three aspirants were similar to the previous stated case. The management was formally notified about the complaint cases. The management decided that in as much as it was not the fault of the candidates, they should not be penalized for the offence not committed by them. After the complaint cases were being considered by the management, they were pardoned and graced. It was also suggested that it is inappropriate for any lecture or staffer to meddle in the affairs of students’ election.
Furthermore, all issues are to be addressed by Students’ Union Electoral Committee. What is requested from the schools’ Deans and HODs is the recommendation letter. A letter of complaint about late submission was received by the Dean Students’ Affairs by one of the aspirant that purchased the election application form but couldn’t submit before the submission time elapsed due to inability to have a recommendation letter by the HOD of his department. The letter was addressed to the Dean Students’ Affairs anonymously tagged “ Concerned student body” concerning above stated case.
2. According to the election guidelines stated for the electoral process for the post of Public Relation Officer 1, the eligibility of candidate to aspire for the post must be an HND Part- Time student.
Meanwhile, it was discovered that one of the aspiring candidates named Adebayo Adeniyi Theophilus aspiring for the post of P.R.O. 1 is a Full-time student. However, the decision of the Students’ Union Electoral Committee was to disqualify the aspirant in order to avoid complaint of duplicating standard. Dean Students’ Affairs suggested that Adebayo Adeniyi Theophilus should be disqualified and sanctioned for violation of electoral rules. In the same vein, he should also be arraigned for Students’ Disciplinary Committee. Te penalty decision for the victim was voted in by all members of Students’ Union Electoral Committee.
3. It was made known by the Dean Students’ Affairs that, Part-time students have registered interest in obtaining election application form for the post of Public Relation Officer 1. Concisely, the Students’ Union Electoral Committee decided that the post should be regarded vacant until after aspirants’ screening.
4. Last Observation was announced that, their is a candidate from Marketing department. However, it is widely known that as at this moment, Marketing department has not been accredited. Regards with that, the committee agreed that it is not part of the electoral process criteria that any student from Marketing department aspiring for a post at Students’ Union Government will be disqualified as far as the Students’ Union Electoral Committee is concerned.
Today’s screening was set to be strictly confidential marged with Security Screening.
A certain student, popularly know as MC H02 from public Admin HND 2 attempt to disrupt the screening process by displaying a public nuisance and ranting upon a complain which is not officially stated or send to the DSA before the stated day for the screening, as the complain will not be unveil
The screening started as scheduled, as the opening address was made by the Dean S.A.
Afterwards, all the aspirant names were call inorder to verify their presence.
According to the election guidelines stated for the electoral process for the post of Public Relation Officer 1, the eligibility of candidate to aspire for the post must be an HND Part- Time student.
Meanwhile, it was discovered that one of the aspiring candidates named Adebayo Adeniyi Theophilus aspiring for the post of P.R.O. 1 is a Full-time student. Upon violating the stated guidelines, he was sanctioned and excused from the screening exercise.
However in the process of the screening, another notable incident occur. Initially two NANS members were allowed in as an observer inorder operate a transparent election, during the screening process, students outside the screening hall were agitating that one of the NANS member is in with an outdated I.D card which literally mean he is no more a member of that stated Association. Thanks to the intelligence of the DSA, the issue was attend to ultimately without further disrupt. In the end, both of them were allow in the hall based on the fact that the institution want a peaceful and transparent election.
All the apsirant were thoroughly screened and documented and later sent to the security agency for security screening as scheduled.
Note: General Aspirant Screening is coming up tomorrow, 4th of Feb 2022 by 9:00am as scheduled in the Electoral Time Table.
The Oke-ogun poly performed foundation laying ceremony for central laboratory named after the Gov. Seyi makinde To ensure that the science students learn under a conducive environment and to be able to compete with other institutions. Laying Ceremony today for the construction of Ultra Modern Central Laboratory named after His Excellency,Oyo State Governor,Engr. Seyi Makinde. The Laboratory comprises Seven(7) Laboratories in total ,I.e Physics with Electronics , Environmental Biology, Applied Chemistry,Micro Biology, Technology Offices and others. The occasion was witnessed and attended by The Representative of His Excellency,the Chairman of the Platinum IT Asset Consultant,Hon Paul,the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Sola Ajayi, Members of Governing Council, Management Members,Dean, Directors and Hods including Students of the Institution.
The acting Rector of the institution welcome the Dignitaries to the Occasion,The Acting Rector of the Institution,Dr Y A Fasasi Appreciated the Governor of Oyo State,His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde for his unified attention and Supports towards the Development of the Institution. He Further appreciated the Support of the State Consultant, Chairman and Member of the Governing Council, Members of Management and Staff of the Institution for Achieving this feat, i.e Laying the Foundation for the construction of Engr Seyi Makinde Central Laboratory. Addressing the Gathering, The Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Sola Ajayi also Commended the State Governor for timely Payment of Workers Salary, enhancement of Staff welfare as well as that of students. He called for proper Monitoring of the project. The State Consultant,Hon Paul further Charged the Management to Monitor the project for its timely Completion and to do Standard Work. He assured that all logistics were on ground for the completion of the project.
Then the Engr. On site promise to give out perfect attention as the Gov. made everything they need available they also promise to unveil the project by late April .
Proper supervision was done by all the available dignities.
The meeting chaired by Dean Student Affairs of the institution. Afterwards, updates from Directorate of Students’ Affairs secretariat was well delivered.
Few point on delivered updates from the secretariat include: 1.Elections application forms fee had been posted. 2.Elections guidelines had been posted. 3.Financial implication for conducting free and fair elections have been forwarded to the management. 4.Names of three best students from each school was sent to Directorate of Students’ Affairs for Students’ Union Transition Committee screening.
Some Request were received from NANS (National Association of Nigeria Student) to the Directorate of Students’ Affairs regarding the conduct of upcoming elections.
Some notable Requests from NANS to DSA are;
Request to extend the sales of elections application forms.
Request to include more students to the electoral body.
Condition of gender discrimination for Students’ Union Executive offices.
Request to wave aspirants CGPA as one of the criteria.
However, the committee deliberated and considered some of the requests, which positively resulted to:
Extension of sales and submission of elections application forms – The initial date for sales and submission of elections application forms had commenced since Monday 10th January but the submission of the elections application forms have been rescheduled to close on 1st February, 2022.
Remover of CGPA verification as one of the criteria to be used for aspirants’ screening. In replacement of that, each aspirant will be recommended by his/her Head of Department and Dean of the School he/she belongs.
Before the meeting was adjourned, the electoral time table for Students’ Union Elections was fairly readjusted by all members of the SUIEC due to an extension on elections application forms’ close date.
Note: The coming election will be held and impartially coordinated online.
