The 2022 French presidential election was held on 10-24 April,2022. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a runoff was held,in which Emmanuel Macron defeated Marine Le Pen and was re-elected as President of France. Macron from Le Republique En Marche! (LREM), who won the 2017 French presidential election and whose first term lasts until 13 May,2022, announced on 3 March,2022 that he would run for re-election. He faced Le Pen, leader of the National Rally,in the second round, after previously defeating her in 2017. He is the first President of France to have won a re-election bid since Jacques Chirac, two decades prior.

The election took place just before the 2022 French legislative election that will be held on 12th June, with runoffs on 19th June to elect the 577 members of the National Assembly, the lower house of the French Parliament. As voting close,Macron was declared the winner of the election by analysis firms Ipsos and Sopra Steria based on exit projections with 58.2% of the vote, while Le Pen received 41.8%,a narrower margin than in 2017. Le Pen conceded defeat and Macron was congratulated by several world leaders following the exit projections. Official results showed Macron beating Le Pen with 58.5% of the vote to her 41.5% with a turnout of 71.9% and abstention rate of 28.0%, the latter being the highest in any presidential election run-off since the 1969 French presidential election.
